I have been slowing trying to lighten up around here. I'm also trying to add some COLOR to the house. It seems like everything thing was tan, beige and mostly "brown". I don't even like the color brown. The weird thing is ,when people ask me "what is my favorite color?" I always seem to say cream or white! I have no idea what my favorite color is.......I think I just like LIGHT...white, cream beige for the background..... then I want to be able to accessorize with color. I am always attracted to rooms in magazines that are all white and taupe. Well I am getting a little more daring...I just painted the master bath a bluish green color!!! It's actually called "comfort Gray". That was huge for me to do that. It feels so good to have a little color, and I have never even liked the color blue. I do like turquoise though and it leans more to that side of the color chart.
I painted my living room and kitchen a buttery yellow. It's actually called "Plantation Beige" so it is yellow but not bright yellow by any means, more on the beige side.
Now I am ready to wallpaper my guest bathroom in something fun and bright in an orange reddish color or something like that...I think!! I will know the right color when I see it. Just anything but BROWN!!!!!!!!!!
Below is some of the changes I have been making.
Before: Hutch-front view
Before: side view-fine, but not right for my room.
Before: Canisters Nice and great if you like brown everywhere. But everything BROWN?! Nope! not going there anymore.
After: Now you actually notice them up there! ahhh fresh and lighter!
Hutch before: fine if you like brown but my room is mostly white, black, yellow not brown.
wOw!!! I actually notice all the cool facets of the hutch now.
After: I like it so much better!!! Now I just need some skylights!!
Master Bathroom
BEFORE: getting it all taped off.
I bought this chair at a garage sale for $10 and looked at it for 3 years trying to decide if I should paint it. I am sooooo glad I finally did!! I would like to change the fabric but not sure if I know how to on this chair. I have a friend that will have to help me with that.
After:It is so soothing and happy now to me in here.
After-Painted cream and just sanded. I like it so much more now.
It took me an hour to do. easy peasy!!
I actually had to paint the lights darker to match my faucets. Funny I went from lighter to darker on those!!
I hate the rugs now, looking for something really fun for the new rug. Probably one big one in the middle.
I bought new towels with COLOR!! Hung my beach picture that has been up in the attic.
This picture shows all the changes. I dry brushed the metal wall hanging in the blue of the bathroom to tie it into the bathroom. I LOVE it!! I didn't have anything hanging above the bed and this worked so good with my textured wall. I painted the lamps from brown to the pale blue/green I added the bluish pillow and painted the chair and added some matching frames. spraypainting old frames.
My candles up on my shelf were white. I wanted to add color up there and didn't want to spend $30 to $40 dollars on new candles so I just wrapped printed scrapbook paper around them and "Ta-Da!" blue/turquoise candles!!
Before: My fixtures. They never matched all the faucets and hardware and I was going to spray them from the beginning but the electrician installed them before I had the chance so I finally got around to it when I painted the bathroom 4 years later!
This was in the bathroom window and you couldn't even see it when it was brown.
After:Now it shows up so bright and happy!
Before: These originally were a teal green, then I painted them brown now they are this light bluish color!
After: LOVE!
Dang, I forgot to take the before picture on this buffet! It was all brown.
The Buffet was all BROWN so I took the back paneling off and painted and glazed it to lighten it up. I love it. My decorations didn't show up good on it most of the time. I wanted to keep going on the painting but I am freaking Dan out. so this might end up all cream with brown glaze. My next phase will be to maybe add some funky handles/knobs on the top drawers to tie in the cream for now.
What idea's do you have for the hutch?? Should I paint the whole thing?
I started painting all my brown frames today to make a fun display when I don't have holiday decorations up. Which is right now until July and in August and Sept. When I get it all done I will show it off. I am going to put all the grand kids pictures in the frames.
*Don't worry, I will display them better!! ;)
Well that is all my projects for this week. More to come!!
See you later, I have to get back to painting!!!
