I wish I had Lilacs to take now but sadly I don't have any lilac bushes.
On the Saturday before Memorial Day me, my daughter Rachelle, my sister Peggy, my cousins Tracey and Jacey all headed to Sanpete to honor our loved ones that have passed on. Rachelle has never done this with me ( that I remember) so it was nice to show her where all the graves are and tell her about family history and where people lived as someday she will have to do this when I am gone. She better!
I just love reading headstones. I take pictures of all the family headstones to match them up with the names in my genealogy. It is so exciting when I find a headstone of a person that I have read about in my family history.
Tuesday Rachelle and the boys headed up to Salt Lake to go to my mom's grave and to Grandma and Grandpa Simcox' graves in Draper. We located some other Simcox family graves also that I did not know were in Draper.
Landen kept asking questions about what we were doing and why we were doing it. He is only 4 1/2 so he didn't quite understand. In time he will know better of the reasons why.
At my mom's grave I keep a notebook tucked up inside of the vase on her headstone. It has been stolen twice before, which drives me crazy! I have no idea why someone would have to do that, and if it is the caretaker of the cemetery it sure seems like he would read it and realize it needs to be put back. No one would know it was there unless they were going from grave to grave unscrewing the vase and looking down inside of it. I keep the notebook in two ziplock bags to keep it safe and dry. Visitors write down their thoughts and feelings and it is so special to go to her grave and read who has been there and what they have written. Thankfully it was still there!!
Saturday went way too fast as I wanted to show Rachelle so many other things and places from my childhood. Because it is hard to get all my kids down to MT. Pleasant I have been taking pictures of all the homes I have lived in my whole life inside and out and documenting all the little details of each house with the address and whatever else I can think of about that house. I have had 21 homes so that is alot of memories. Hopefully my posterity will enjoy reading and looking at them as much as I do.
I hope when I die someone will bring me flowers and remember me!! Hint-Hint :) I just hope someone keeps tending the graves.......................
