Last Monday My cousin Tracey and I went to Idaho to visit my Grandma and to see my dad. While I was at my Grandma's I found this ribbon in her room. I asked my step mom what that ribbon was for? She said that Grandma had given a rag rug a while ago to a young girl and the girl thought it was so cool that she entered it in the Minidoka County Fair up in Idaho.
Well, Grandma won a blue ribbon in her age group!! I thought it was so cute!
How fun for her to win a blue ribbon at age 97 at the State Fair. You can count on me to put it in her scrapbook to add to her legacy.
Grandma wasn't quite her spunky self that day and it made me sad. She can't see much of anything anymore and does not crochet hangers or rugs anymore. That hobby has sadly come to an end for her.
Tracey had brought some flip flops to have Grandma tie some fabric on to decorate them and give her something to do. Well when We handed her the flipflop she felt it for a minute and she says "what is this, a crouton??" I think she was trying to say something else and that is what came out but I couldn't help but laugh, that is when I realized that she really can't SEE anything, and she is starting to get dementia. Afton says she has good days and bad days. Last time we took her to lunch and fed her Pepsi and rice krispie treats she was really sharp. This day she was confused and we had to talk really loud right in her face to get her to hear us. Man, I don't want to get to that point in my life.
We couldn't find her hearing aid either and searched her whole room until I found it on the floor under her window! I think grandma was trying to hide it! Afton says she loses the hearing aid almost every other day. I guess it is hard to remember when you can't even see where you put stuff! They used to have a foam pillow that would keep her trapped in her wheelchair because she was always trying to get out. Well she tried to cut it off one day so now guess what??? No more Scissors for Grandma in her room!!!
Can't play with them when your young, and you can't play with them when your old!
No matter what funny things she is up to these days because of her age she still is one amazing lady!!
That makes me sad the Grandma is not her spunky self. It will be a sad day when she decides to leave us. It's so great that you get up there so often. We'll have to figure out a time to go see her as soon as we can.
ReplyDeleteI really want to be invited on one of these trips up! I would like to see her again. Your stories make me sad, but I think its amazing she has been kickin for so long. She IS amazing.
ReplyDeleteWay to go, GRAM! Can't believe she is still able to do so many things at her age... I hope I am blessed with such productivity throughout my life, however long it be! :)
