HoBo DiNnErs

I have never made tin foil dinners and wanted to try them. So for our weekly family dinner which seems to be happening in the Canyon on a regular basis I tried something new. In foil we had a chicken breast, red potatoes, carrots,(I precooked the potatoes and carrots) diced onions, Lipton soup mix and a half of ear of corn. Other then being to enthusiastic to get them cooking (we burned them a tiny bit)by not waiting for the coals to be just right...I am still fine tuning my bar-b-q-ing skills. Anyway, they turned out really good. I also saw an idea online to take refrigerator biscuits and cook them twisted on a stick. Well, I bought ready made bread stick dough instead and TRIED wrapping them on a hot dog stick. It started out pretty snazzy and then it all started to fall off, dang it! Next I laid foil on the grill and laid the twisted dough on it and covered them with a top layer of foil, trying to fake an oven atmosphere. Well it worked. Wish I would have brought some homemade jam and they would have been really yummy.
So I learned some new techniques, and made notes on how to make everything even better for next time and plan to try again. We just love being up there. Trevor even started the fire without matches tonight. There were warm coals in the pit and he got it going with dry grass. Trevor started being fascinated with fires around 3 and at a very early age he was great at getting the fire started in the fireplace for us. He is still our fire specialist!
I planned on having fresh peaches and watermelon and both of them were a bust! The watermelon was mushy and gross and the peaches were too green. That made me sad as I was so excited for both and it left me with nothing else to eat with our foil dinners. We survived though.
We missed the rest of the family as they were off doing other things
By the way they have started selling peaches at Allred's!!! whoo-hoo!!!! They just need a few days to ripen.
