Easter Weekend

It was a busy weekend with Grandma's Birthday and Easter at Peggy's. We left warm sunny St. George on Friday. It was hard to leave some of the warmest days we've had this year! I worked in my yard all last week and was loving every minute of it. I was out there for at least 6 hrs a day. I am transplanting all my plants so I can put grass in the front yard instead of having the desert landscape. It's a big job but it will look great when I get it done.

Saturday I picked Rachelle and Cody up at 8:30AM and we headed up to Idaho for the big Birthday Bash for Grandma Alta who turned 97!! That is so crazy to me. I just turned 50 and I think of all the things I have done or been through, and how much I have learned and then I think of Grandma. She has almost my whole life time under her belt and I realize I still have a long way to go to even comprehend how she feels. She has seen a lot of changes in her lifetime. I remember my Grandma Henrie coming to visit me in Denver when I was about 22 and her telling me how different and how much easier it is to be a mother now then when she was young. I had a dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, microwave, disposable diapers just to name a few. She did not have any of those or a lot of other things. Can you imagine if we had to wash out all those stinky dirty diapers and even use them again. ughhhh! Wash all the clothes by hand and hang them out to dry. etc. Your already feeling better about your life aren't you? I know I at times do not appreciate all that I have. How did they do it without a computer!! Just joking...

Grandma Alta has given me many things...I inherited her feet(not a good thing), her energy, her thin fine hair(not a good thing). She has taught me many things.. how to crochet, make rag rugs, tie a quilt, gardening skills, painting tips and how to make do with what you've got just to name a few.

She has had a hard life and lived through some very tough things. When she had an aneurysm and they told her it would take her life in an instant when it ruptured, that at her age surgery was very risky she was very tough and brave. She was not ready to die and wanted to go for the surgery. The doctors said they don't usually operate on someone this old. She could die on the operating table most likely. We didn't think she would do it. But she really wasn't ready to die after talking to her about all the risks. She was so brave, and it was a long recovery. The doctor said she was the oldest patient he had performed the surgery on and she actually recovered faster then the norm.
That is Grandma, one tough lady. I hope I have inherited her toughness and her bravery. I would say she has pretty much seen it all and gone through it all. A legacy for us all to honor.
