Yesterday I called Bart to go pick up my mom's sewing machine and cedar chest that he took when she died. They were just collecting dust at his house. I was glad to know that they were still around. Well, when I picked them up I realized how beat up they were. I definitely have a lot of work to do on them! The fun part is that the drawers were just as mom left them all messy, and full of notes and random things her glasses and even one of her fake fingernails that had fallen off and it was painted pink! ( I teared a little) then I laughed because we all have some memory of her fake fingernails. I know Megan mentioned one the other day about bowling. I have another niece named Vanessa that came to visit us on Winward Drive one time and she found a fingernail in our carpet and thought she had found a diamond. She thought it was the coolest thing ever and carried it in her pocket all night.
So when I found this one in the sewing machine drawer I just had to laugh, and take a picture of it and the other little treasures, of course.
The machine is so dirty and needs to be cleaned up. I plan to clean it up, take it in for a tune up and then I am going to use it. I learned how to sew on this machine and made a lot of of my clothes on it in Jr. High and High School. I was making pant suits almost weekly so I would not wear the same thing twice for at least 2 or 3 weeks. I even made all of my dresses for school dances on this beauty. I like to sew and quilt. Those hobbies have been on the back burner lately. I am taking a applique quilting class right now in my Provo ward. I love it. You make one block a month then I have a cute Christmas quilt when it is done.
Ahhh, the memories of my Mom. I miss her everyday!
I was just telling Lys the exact same thing the other day. How she always had fake fingernails on, and how I loved it when Id go over and she'd put them on me.... Im going to cry. I think about her all the time and wish so bad she was around to enjoy her, and have her enjoy her great grandkids as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is funny that we think about her fingernails all the time. I was just telling Russ on our way home from church that I had my grandma's hands with the big nuckles...except she had red fingernails! Just the other night I was home with Logan folding laundry and thought I saw somebody in the other room out of the corner of my eye. I looked over and couldn't see anyone, but there was her picture. Brought a tear! I can't wait to see her again. :)
